Q&A with Maria Clor:
What inspired you to become an academic advisor, and what do you enjoy about working with students?
I love making relationships and connecting with students. As a former elementary school teacher and staff member at Boys and Girls Club, I’ve enjoyed connecting with students of all ages.
What is the SPARC team, and what do you hope to accomplish with them?
The SPARC team stands for Student Planning & Resource Corps. They are the undergraduate students who work in the Luddy advising offices. The goal of the SPARC team is to assist students with registration and act as a peer mentor, but they do so much more, including class visits, Welcome Week events, and more!
What kind of upcoming initiatives or projects are you excited to work on?
I am excited about our upcoming new student orientation! We are gamifying the Day 1 experience and I love the pace of Day 2.
What’s a fun fact about you or a hobby you enjoy outside of work?
I am the staff advisor for Live Reality Games @ IU. We are currently working on Season 4 of Survivor!
