Miriam “Mimi” Attenoukon, the Assistant Director of the 21st Century Scholars Program at Indiana University Bloomington, has been recognized as the 2025 recipient of the prestigious Terri Nation Award for excellence in academic advising. With over 16 years at the Hudson & Holland Scholars Program before her current role, she has dedicated her career to student success, focusing on advising and program development to connect students with research, internships, and career opportunities. She also serves as a staff advisor for multiple student organizations, including the African Women’s Leadership Organization (AWLO) and the Future Minority Nurses Association (FMNA).
A second-generation American born to Beninese immigrant parents, Mimi was raised in Baltimore, MD, and is a first-generation college graduate. She earned a geology degree from Smith College and later obtained her M.S. and Ph.D. in geology from Indiana University. Beyond her professional commitments, she enjoys traveling, outdoor activities, reading, music, cooking, and being a plant mom to orchids, succulents, and cacti. Mimi’s dedication to student success and mentorship continues to make a lasting impact at IU Bloomington.
